Granting and Accepting Access Through Messaging
The messages you receive from other account parties granting you
different levels of Instrument authority can be retrieved from the Messages pane.
Message Type | Description |
---|---|
Grant Access | the recipient is granted authorization to update the Instrument |
Grant Release Authority | a message which limits the recipient to Release Authority |
Instrument Message | any message from the same sender about the same instrument, sent after the user has accepted the instrument |
LRO Message | a message sent when an instrument is returned for correction by the LRO |
Note: The first type of access granted to the user cannot be changed.
Authority Type | Description |
---|---|
Blanket Authority | Blanket Authority grants full access (edit, sign for release and completeness, submit for registration) to any user(s) you select within your account, to any Instrument you have created or to which you've been granted access subsequent to the granting of authority. If Law Compliance Statements have been selected within the Instrument, the user with Blanket Authority can only sign the Instrument for completeness if he/she is a lawyer in good standing. |
Update Authority | Update Authority is specific to an Instrument. Once you have given Update Authority to a user, that user can edit, sign for completeness and release, and submit for registration a specific Instrument. If Law Compliance Statements have been selected within the Instrument, the user with Update Authority can only sign the Instrument for completeness if he/she is a lawyer in good standing. |
Release Authority | Release Authority is specific to an Instrument. Once you have given Release Authority to a user for an Instrument, that user can sign the Instrument for release and submit it for registration once it has been signed for completeness by an authorized authority, such as a lawyer in good standing. |
To accept access to an Instrument
- Select the Messages icon
at the top of the screen.
Tip: When you have new messages, an orange bubble will appear on the icon, indicating the number of new messages.
The Messages pane displays.
- If desired, filter the displayed messages from the
Filter By drop-down list.
- Unread - This option will display only messages that haven't been read yet.
- Accept Access Pending - This option will display messages that have been read, but where access hasn't yet been accepted.
- All - This option will display every message of every status
The messages display in the list.
Tip: To sort columns in ascending or descending order, select the column header.
- Select the desired message and, from the green arrow menu
next to it, select Accept Access.
The confirmation window displays.
- Select Continue to confirm.
The Select Docket to Accept Access window opens.
- Select Create New Docket.
- Enter the new Docket ID and the new Docket Name in the required fields, and select OK.
A confirmation message with a green checkmark appears in the Messages pane.
- Select the green x
to close the Messages pane.
- Select the Docket in the Dockets/Home screen, and from the green arrow menu
to the right, select Open Docket.
The Docket opens, displaying the Instrument(s) you've accepted access to.
- Select the Instrument, and from the green arrow menu
to the right, select Open.
The Instrument displays, with the areas to be corrected displayed in the Area(s) to be Corrected branch.
Note: The text in orange indicates the branch where the correction must be made.
- Select Attach to Existing Docket.
- Enter the Docket ID or Name in the Docket ID or Name field, and select Search.
- Select the Docket in the window and select OK.
A confirmation message with a green checkmark appears in the Messages pane.
- Select the green x
to close the Messages pane.
- Select the Docket in the Dockets/Home screen, and from the green arrow menu
to the right, select Open Docket.
The Docket opens, displaying the Instrument(s) you've accepted access to.
- Select the Instrument, and from the green arrow menu
to the right, select Open.
The Instrument displays, with the areas to be corrected displayed in the Area(s) to be Corrected branch.
Note: The text in orange indicates the branch where the correction must be made.
- On the Home/Dockets screen, select the Docket containing the Instrument(s).
- From the green arrow menu
to the right of the Docket, select Open Docket.
The Docket opens.
- Select an Instrument.
- From the green arrow menu
options, select Open.
- Select the Messages branch from the tree view to the left.
- Select the Compose Message button.
The Compose Message window opens.
- If desired, select Filter by Company to limit the available recipients to the members of a specific Teraview account.
The Company field displays.
- Enter at least three of the first characters of the Company name, followed by an asterisk * and select Find.
Note: You can also refine your search using one of these methods.

The drop-down list displays the possible Company Name results.
- From the displayed names in the Company drop-down list, select the account name.
The corresponding list of names for the account displays in the Recipient Name field.
- From the Recipient Name drop-down list, select the recipient name, and select Add.
The Recipient name displays in the Recipients in Message pane.
Tip: If not filtering by Company, enter the first few characters of the Recipient name, followed by an asterisk *, or the above mentioned search operators, and select Find, then select the name and select Add.
Tip: if you have selected the wrong recipient name, select the Remove button next to the Recipient's name.
- To add other recipients, follow the preceding four steps.
Note: Recipients can belong to other accounts.
- To filter the available Instruments by the Project they belong to, select Filter by Project.
The Project(s) drop-down list appears.
- Select the desired Project in the list.
- From the Acting for options, select the party on whose behalf you are acting.
- To limit the recipient to update authority, select the Limit to Release Authority option.
Note: This option is not available for one-party Instruments (Charge, Discharge of Charge, Power of Attorney, etc.).
- From the Available Instruments pane, select an Instrument to assign to the Recipient.
Note: When scrolling through a list with the keyboard arrows, there are two stages to selection; when the selection you have scrolled to is grey, it is highlighted. To select it, hit the Enter key. The selection will become green.
- Select Add to move the Instrument to the Instrument(s) in Message pane.
- To add any other Instruments to the message, follow the two previous steps.
- Enter the text for the message in the Message field.
- Select Send.
A window will open, indicating the status of your message.
In the Instrument List, the Last Action column of the Instrument will indicate that the message has been sent.
To grant access to one or more Instruments, to one or more users, from the Dockets/Home screen
- On the Dockets/Home screen, select the Docket containing the Instrument(s).
- From the green arrow menu to the right of the Docket, select Compose Message.
The Compose Message window opens.
- If desired, select Filter by Company to limit the available recipients to the members of a specific Teraview account.
The Company field displays.
- Enter at least three of the first characters of the Company name, followed by an asterisk * and select Find.
Note: You can also refine your search using one of these methods.

- To filter the available Instruments by the Project they belong to, select Filter by Project.

- Select the desired Project in the list.

- From the Available Instruments pane, select the Instrument to assign to the Recipient.
Note: When scrolling through a list with the keyboard arrows, there are two stages to selection; when the selection you have scrolled to is grey, it is highlighted. To select it, hit the Enter key. The selection will become green.
- Select Add to move the Instrument to the Instrument(s) in Message pane.
- To add any other required Instruments to the message, follow the two previous steps.
- Enter the text for the message in the Message field.
- Select Send.
A window will open, indicating the status of your message.
In the Instrument List, the Last Action column of the Instrument will indicate that the message has been sent.
To grant access to one or more Instruments, to one or more users, from the Instrument List
- Select the Docket containing the Instrument(s).
- From the green arrow menu
to the right of the Docket, select Open.
The Docket opens.
- Select the Instrument, or, if granting access to more than one Instrument, use the checkboxes
to select the desired Instruments.
- From the green arrow menu
to the right of the selected Instrument(s), select Compose Message.
The Compose Message window opens.
- If desired, select Filter by Company to limit the available recipients to the members of a specific Teraview account.
The Company field displays.
- Enter at least three of the first characters of the Company name, followed by an asterisk * and select Find.
Note: You can also refine your search using one of these methods.

Tip: To grant Blanket authority to a user in the same Teraview account as yourself, use the User Authority feature in the Administration pane.
